More Than 10,000 Athletes From 11 Countries Registered for SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games

PHNOM PENH: A total of 12,404 sports delegates from 11 countries have registered for the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games, with 1,158 delegates registered from Cambodia.

The Minister of Tourism and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Cambodia SEA Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC), Thong Khon, shared these statistics during the solidarity dinner with athletes at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center on Monday evening, 3 April 2023.

Minister Thong Khon shared the following sporting delegate numbers coming from the 11 participating countries: 1,158 from Cambodia, 113 from Brunei, 1,802 from Indonesia, 656 from Laos, 1,532 from Malaysia, 694 from Myanmar, 1,342 from the Philippines, 1,228 from Singapore, 1,985 from Thailand, 171 from Timor-Leste and 1,663 from Vietnam.

The Minister of Tourism confirmed that the Minister of National Defense and Chairman of CAMSOC, DPM Tea Banh, reviewed the prepared accommodation, food and transportation on 31 March 2023, and made arrangements for 3,500 additional athletes at the SEA Games sports village.

More than 2,000 athletes will be staying at hotels that are 4-stars and up near the main sporting stadium in Phnom Penh. Another 2,000 athletes who will be competing in the four provinces have also received their official accommodation arrangements.

Minister Thong Khon also shared that as of Monday, 3 April, 37 sports with 581 disciplines have been approved by the SEA Games Federation Council, while 13 sports with 431 disciplines have also been approved for the ASEAN Para Games. Venues for all sporting events have also been determined.

The SEA Games will be hosted in Phnom Penh at three major locations and some other minor locations. This includes the Moradok Techo National Stadium (opening and closing ceremonies, nine sporting events), the National Olympic Stadium (10 sporting events), the Chroy Changvar International Convention and Exhibition Center (13 sporting events) and other smaller venues located near the hotels where athletes will be residing.
